Strategic Plan consultations

Shape the future of Aboriginal Languages in NSW

Your voice. Your Language. Your future.

The Aboriginal Languages Trust (ALT) is developing its next Strategic Plan, which will guide our work from 2028 and beyond.

Over the past five years, we have seen strong progress in the revitalisation, strengthening and celebration of Aboriginal Languages across NSW. As we look to the future, it is critical that the next phase is informed by the voices, experiences and aspirations of the people and Communities at the heart of this work.

This is your opportunity to help shape how Aboriginal Language revitalisation is supported, resourced and strengthened across NSW for years to come.

Whether you are actively involved in Language work, support Language revitalisation through your organisation, or simply care about the future of Aboriginal Languages, your perspective matters.

This consultation will help create a Strategic Plan that is Community-informed, representative and actionable.

Everyone has a role in shaping the future of Aboriginal Languages in NSW, you don't need to be a Language expert to contribute.

We want to hear from a broad range of voices, including people who may not already be connected with ALT. Young people, future Language leaders, and regional and remote Communities are especially important to this conversation.

Why participate?

By participating, you will help:

  • Shape future priorities and investment in Aboriginal Language work
  • Inform how support and resources are delivered to Communities
  • Influence decisions that affect your Community, organisation and Language initiatives
  • Strengthen connections across the Language sector
  • Ensure Community knowledge and perspectives guide decision-making
  • Help build a stronger, more connected Language sector across NSW.

Strong partnerships between Communities, Language organisations, government, peak bodies and sector partners are essential to the long-term success of Aboriginal Language revitalisation.

How can I participate?

There are several ways to get involved.

  • Attend a Community consultation session: for Aboriginal Community members, Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), Language groups, Language Centres and others involved in Language revitalisation. Sign up below.
  • Complete the online survey: for anyone who would like to contribute but cannot attend a consultation session in person, including non-Indigenous individuals working with Aboriginal Language Communities.
  • Participate in an online consultation: for government agencies, peak organisations, institutes and partner organisations that support Aboriginal Languages across NSW.
