Grants Program launched to celebrate Aboriginal Languages Week 2025

  • Tuesday, 22 July 2025

The Aboriginal Languages Trust (ALT) has launched its third annual NSW Aboriginal Languages Week Grants Program to support Aboriginal Communities to celebrate their Languages during NSW Aboriginal Languages Week.

Aboriginal Languages Trust, Chair, Ms. Catherine Trindall said, “I am delighted to announce that a total of $150,000 funding has been allocated as part of the 2025 NSW Aboriginal Languages Week Grants Program.”

“These grants are about celebrating revitalisation efforts and empowering Communities and Language champions to lead the way in keeping Languages strong today and for generations to come.”

Purpose

Aboriginal Languages Week marks the anniversary of the Aboriginal Languages Act 2017, aiming to:

  • raise awareness of Aboriginal Language history and future
  • showcase revitalisation efforts and best practices
  • encourage Language learning—especially among youth
  • strengthen community, education, and employment through Language.

The program supports Community organisations to deliver NSW Aboriginal Languages Week activities including Language-themed workshops, classes, exhibitions, arts, or Language-themed sporting events.
In previous years, these initiatives have included Language workshops, launch events for Language books and apps and Community film screenings.

Aboriginal Languages Trust, Chair, Ms. Catherine Trindall added, “the sheer pride and commitment our Community organisations take in their Languages, strengthens our resolve to see them recognised for their revitalisation efforts.”
